Pirates who’ve inspired me, part 2: Captain Jack Sparrow

captain jack sparrowWhat can I say? Who doesn’t remember the first time they saw Captain Jack Sparrow slowly gliding into port and stepping off onto the pier just as the last of the mast sunk?

”When you marooned me on that god forsaken spit of land, you forgot one very important thing, mate: I’m Captain Jack Sparrow.”

”You cheated!”
”Pirate.”

”Me? I’m dishonest, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly. It’s the honest ones you want to watch out for, because you can never predict when they’re going to do something incredibly… stupid.”

”You are without doubt the worst pirate I’ve ever heard of.”
”But you have heard of me.”

”I think we’ve all arrived at a very special place. Spiritually, ecumenically … grammatically.”

”This is the day you will always remember as the day you almost caught Captain Jack Sparrow.”

”Now, bring me that horizon.”

(Of course, you could say the other Captain Jack has inspired me quite a lot as well. But he isn’t a pirate – rather, we haven’t gotten to see him as a pirate; he must surely have been one at some point, he has been around. Hmm, perhaps he could borrow Captain John’s uniform jacket …)

I must definitely say that Captain Jack was a pirate in the first episodes he was in, when he met Rose at the world war. He wasn’t a pirate on the sea but in time and space. He, as the captain Jack you talk so nicely about above, would have put it, tried to maroone Rose with the ”empty” ambulance. He had a ship, and he was a captain. I think you could with out a doubt have him in your little series of pirates that inspired you 😉

And the sparrow guy, even if he has nothing on Harkness guy, his ab fab!

    Gilla
